Cold application
The aim of cold therapy is to interrupt the cycle of the inflammatory response before it causes cell damage. Cold treatment significantly reduces the amount of tissue lost through secondary injury.
- Keep the gel packs in the freezer so that they are always ready to use. Freeze gel packs for at least 2-3 hours before use.
- Insert the gel packs into the corresponding pockets of the THERMOBOOT. Do not apply directly to the skin.
- Leave the THERMOBOOT on the horse's leg for a maximum of 20-30 minutes per session. Press firmly to ensure correct application. Check that the Velcro fasteners are securely fastened without over-tightening.
- Remove the THERMOBOOT for 20 minutes and repeat the cold application every hour or hour and a half as required. Consult your vet for further application.
Heat application
The aim of heat therapy is to dilate the blood vessels, thereby increasing blood flow to the area where the heat is applied. This leads to an increased flow of nutrients and oxygen to the affected area, promoting healing. This treatment can help to relax the muscles and can increase the elasticity of the connective tissue of the treated area for better performance.
Hot water application:
- boil about 4-5 litres of water
- as soon as the water has come to the boil, remove the water
- immerse gel packs in boiling water for about 10 minutes
- remove the gel packs from the water and place them in the corresponding pockets of the Thermoboot - Do not apply directly to the skin!
- repeat the therapy up to 3-4 times a day
Use in the microwave:
Microwaves have different powers, so find out the correct heating time for each microwave.
- Before placing the gel packs in the microwave, flatten them and make sure that the gel inside is evenly distributed. However, we recommend not exceeding 650 W.
- When the gel packs are at room temperature, set the microwave to maximum power and heat for 10 seconds and then leave for 1 minute. If additional heat is required, try another 10 seconds with the same resting time until the desired temperature is reached.
- If the gel packs have been stored in the freezer, set the microwave to maximum power and heat for 15 seconds, then leave for 90 seconds. Then heat them in 10 second increments with the same resting time until the desired temperature is reached.
- Make a note of the total time required for later use.
- Insert the gel packs into the corresponding pockets of the THERMOBOOT. Do not apply directly to the skin.
- Apply to the area to be treated for an interval of 20 minutes. Press firmly to ensure correct application. Check that the Velcro fasteners are securely fastened without over-tightening.
- Do not leave the horse unattended during the application of the THERMOBOOT, always supervise it.
- Repeat the therapy up to three to four times a day. Consult your vet for further application.
